Patients with herpes simplex virus infections, either active or as a preventive measure, who were unable to take valaciclovir or aciclovir were enrolled in the study. Eligible patients were adults aged 18 years or older with a history of active herpes simplex virus infection, who were randomized to receive either Valtrex Valaciclovir (500mg) or placebo. Eligible patients were also eligible to participate if they met the following inclusion and exclusion criteria: (1) signed informed consent, (2) current or recent medical conditions (e.g., heart problems, stroke, liver disease), (3) no other severe medical conditions or organic diseases (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, seizures), and (4) no other medications or chronic conditions. Patients with a history of gynocomastia or previous valaciclovir treatment were excluded.
During the study, medical personnel were unaware of the treatment allocation. Each patient was given a medical history and physical examination to rule out structural or functional cardiac disease. Blood and urine were collected while the patients were taking Valtrex Valaciclovir (500mg) and was tested for herpes virus antibodies. The study was approved by the Research and Ethics Review Board at University of macatrini at Firella (UOM) and the University of Macatrini (UOM) Institutional Review Board. This study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and was conducted in line with Good Clinical Practice. This study was registered on August 27, 2016, in the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (NCT/SCidepress-000948) and adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki. Only Eligible Patients were included in the study. Eligible patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were given a written informed consent, provided by the study personnel, by their primary care physician, and signed an informed consent form. Eligible patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomized to receive either Valtrex Valaciclovir (500mg) or placebo. Randomization was concealed after the informed consent and by their primary care physician.
